An impressive crowd and beautiful turf at Eastern Oval greeted the WBBL teams, but the weather did not join the party.
After 14.3 overs of the Renegades innings, where they sat at 4-83, the covers came on for the first time.
From there the weather barely let-up.
The Renegades innings was called to an end and the Strikers were set 78 runs for victory from 11 overs, after an adjusted total.
Only 4.3 overs of the Strikers innings was played, Adelaide scoring 2-27, before the match was abandoned.
Disappointingly, only three more balls needed to be bowled for there to be a result – which would have gone in the Renegades favour.
Renegades top-order bat Sophie Molineux, who top-scored with an unbeaten 44 off 37 deliveries, said it was disappointing to not get a result but was impressed with the condition of ground.
“It was beautiful, the outfield was nice, really green, and the pitch played really well,” Molineux said.
“It was the perfect twenty20 wicket, there was a bit of spin and quick for the pacers and the batters, once they got in, there was runs to be made.
“But once the thunder and lightning hit we were pretty keen to get off the ground.
“It was disappointing we couldn’t get the full 40 overs in.”
Molineux said it was extra special to play in front of country Victoria fans as well as sign a host of autographs after the game, despite the inclement weather.
“It’s really special. There’s a handful of Renegades girls that are from country Victoria...to play in front of the locals, we really enjoyed it and we’ll hope to get out here again.”
