The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has foretasted a 95% per cent chance of 15 to 30 millimeters of rain to hit the region.
Caused by a deepening low pressure trough dragging down tropical conditions from Queensland, the storm may also bring damaging winds.
A BoM spokesman said rains would be active across the state and the conditions are out of the ordinary for this time of year.
“There is always potential for storms in early December but to receive a month’s worth of rain over a morning would certainly be unusual,” he said.
SES regional duty officer Tony Grimme says they are aware and preparing for the coming storms.
“We’ve got volunteers on standby across the region,” he said.
Mr Grimme wants people to be informed and take measures to protect themselves and their properties ahead of the potentially dangerous conditions.
“First of all people need to look after themselves. Don’t do anything stupid like driving or walking through flood waters.
“Make sure your gutters are clear of leaves and other debris, don’t park under trees and secure loose items in the back yard like trampolines and small sheds.”
The storm is set to be more constant than the sporadic rain we received last weekend.
