The Ballarat Golf Club asked for $25,000 in cash to pay for a welcome dinner, the Australian Ladies Professional Golf pro-am hosting fee and event marketing to entice more spectators on January 28 to February 3.
But according to a report, prosperity councillors mayor Samantha McIntosh, deputy mayor Jim Rinaldi and Daniel Moloney reviewed the request and recommended a lower amount of $6,250.
The mover of the report Councillor Ben Taylor said it was a “great program, it’s fantastic to have the ALPG here”.
“They requested $25,000, but based on their budget and looking at the data from the officers, I recommend that amount of $6,250.”
In a report, the golf club expects 500 visitors and 3000 locals will attend the pro-am, projecting an economic impact for Ballarat of $340,000.
The club stated the event was “shining a light on womens [sic] golf and giving young golfers the opportunity to play alongside the best female golfers in the country in a relaxed setting”.
