Flapper identified the arrivals of Jarrod Burt (from Victoria) and Todd Blackburn (from Webbcona) as perhaps making the biggest difference to the team, which has established itself as one of the major players for the premiership later in the season.
The Wickers are second on the ladder after the first full round of matches and look well placed to make a return to finals.
“If all goes well and the stars all align we should go pretty well,” Flapper said of the team’s chances this season.
“We picked up a couple of players and they have made a heck of a difference in our side.
“We are a bit surprised we are way up the top there, but not surprised we are going pretty well.”
Flapper said there was a good feeling throughout the club.
“All divisions are going well at the moment, even division four and division six,” he said.
“It’s all going well at the club at the moment.”
Flapper said skipper Travis Hedger was unavailable for this Saturday’s clash with Smeaton, which the Wickers beat when the two sides met back in round one.
On that occasion, Creswick landed a comfortable 102-79 triumph and took three of the four rink wins in the process.
Since then, the Wickers have landed another five victories, while Smeaton has only managed to win two of its games.
Elsewhere this Saturday, leading side Ballarat will come up against a Mt Xavier outfit that is looking to break into the top four.
Ballarat won the meeting between the two back in October and will be hard to beat on its home green.
Ballarat Memorial Sports dropped its round one clash with Webbcona, but will look to atone for that defeat this weekend, City Oval is booked to host Central Wendouree and Learmonth should be too strong at home against bottom side Ballarat East.
