She has a name that matches her stature, but Sky Petite certainly punches above her weight when it comes to performance on the racetrack.

And this Saturday night, the little mare will look to deliver her connections one of the biggest thrills of their lives.
The pint-sized seven-year-old will race in the prestigious Inter Dominion Trotting Championship Grand Final – a series that has been won by many of the sport’s biggest names.
And while Sky Petite is trained by Burrumbeet local Michael Stanley, he admits it’s his stable employee Ryan Duffy that does most of the work with the horse.
Duffy, who has only been working with Stanley for a short period of time, is quickly gaining a name as one of the emerging young drivers in the industry.
He has driven in group 1 features before, but admits the weekend’s race at Melton will be a career highlight.
Duffy is realistic about Sky Petite’s chances of winning the race – she’s currently a $101 outsider with the TAB – but is hoping for a good performance nonetheless.
“If she can get the right run into it and run into the top four, we’d be absolutely rapt with her run,” Duffy told The Courier after winning a race at Ballarat on Wednesday evening.
“Obviously the barrier draws in all those big races play a big part and where she is drawn (seven), it’s a hard barrier to overcome. But with the right run she’s definitely a good stayer over the distance.”
Duffy has a long history with the horse, which was this year transferred to Stanley from former trainer Dean Pattison.
“My dad actually broke her in as a yearling and I drove her in her first trial as a two-year-old,” he said.
“I’ve actually been fortunate enough to win three cups on her, so to me she is held pretty close to my heart.
“She’s been a really good horse for me moving forward in my career and having the opportunity to drive in an Inter Dominion is just an achievement within itself.”
Sky Petite has won 20 races from 63 starts and more than $200,000 in prizemoney.
Saturday night’s grand final for the trotters will start at 9.08pm before the pacers battle it out at 9.45pm.
