The damaging all-rounder, who tasted premiership success with Wendouree, has not played in the Ballarat Cricket Association for the past two seasons after moving north.
While Ellis played a couple of games in the 2015-16 season, his last season of significance in 2013-14 saw him take 21 wickets at an impressive average of 14.96. With the bat, he averaged 17.3 with a top-score of 54, while he boasted averages in the 20s in previous seasons.
Ellis will be a valuable inclusion to the Buninyong side.
Making his inclusion even more important is the disappointing departure of all-rounder Matthew Worsnop.
Worsnop was one of the Bunnies star recruits prior to entering the BCA first grade. Worsnop had Victorian Premier League experience and was showing those qualities early in the season with knocks of 64 and 53 in the opening two rounds while more recently bagging two three-wicket hauls with the ball.
Worsnop has moved to New Zealand to be with his partner.
