Another Ballarat organisation has officially joined the National Redress Scheme for survivors of institutional sexual abuse.

The board of CAFS , formerly Child and Family Services, passed a motion on Thursday night to join the scheme, after the state government confirmed it would have equal liability with the institution.
The organisation was responsible for managing the Ballarat District Orphan Asylum, which opened in 1865.
At times in its history, the state government had also been involved in its operation.
CAFS chief executive Allan Joy said the scheme had the institution’s full support.
“We said we would and we have, we’ve always supported it in principle,” he said.
CAFS staff previously completed training in preparation for the scheme.
Paperwork will be submitted, and once approved by the Federal Minister for Social Services, the institution will be searchable on the Redress Scheme’s website, allowing survivors to apply.
The Ballarat Catholic and Anglican Diocese joined the scheme this week, following state and Commonwealth government organisations, the Uniting Church, Scouts Australia, Global Interaction, YMCA, and the Salvation Army.
