Career firefighters at both stations have been fundraising and shopping for toys to deliver to children via the 3BA Christmas Appeal.
A Ballarat City Christmas tradition, this is the first time Lucas fire fighters have officially been involved, having more into their new station less than a fortnight ago.
“We’re glad to be involved and jump on board to help,” Lucas firefighter Jason Adams said.
Crews collected a combined 175 toys between the two stations, which boast about 100 career firefighters.
Appeal ambassador Peter Caligari said the gesture was incredibly welcome in the week before Christmas.
“This is a classic example of a community fire brigade doing something extra special for the community every year,” Mr Caligari said.
“To also have the new Lucas brigade on board as well is fantastic.”
The 3BA Christmas Appeal has been running since 1980 and supports St Vincent de Paul, Anglicare, Uniting Ballarat and the Salvation Army. There is also a separate Christmas in July appeal.
Mr Caligari said the toy donations will enable welfare agencies the chance to focus their resources in helping families in other ways this Christmas.
He said 100 per cent of everything raised goes directly back into the Ballarat community. To donate, visit the station’s Lydiard Street office.
