The annual GoldRush Trail Run has raised $860 in donations for family services organisation Berry Street.
This effort comes in the third year of the GoldRush event with more than 700 runners taking to trails for six-kilometre, 13km or 24km events through Spa Country, finishing on the Sailors Falls Estate.
GoldRush race director and creator Julian Spence, from The Running Company, told The Advocate, the festive vibe at the finish made for a great way to finish the year running before Christmas feasting. He said the event was also drawing new people to explore the area and to give trail running a go.
“Many didn’t know there was such an awesome single track in the Daylesford-Hepburn region, so we’ve introduced a whole bunch of new people to the place with lots returning to the region to train and explore more trails,” Mr Spence said.
Sailors Falls Estate owner Robert McDonald said the event was a wonderful new concept for outdoor tourism in the shire.
“All athletes commented on the beauty of Wombat Forest and the wonderful finishing destination at Sailors Falls Estate,” he said.
This year, the estate hosted live music, food stalls and wine tasting at the cellar door for competitors to enjoy once they had completed the race.
Berry Street is a not-for-profit organisation that last year provided safe homes for almost 2000 at-risk children, while supporting thousands of vulnerable Victorians begin to heal from childhood trauma.
