Bakery Hill, Peel Street, Sebastopol and Wendouree Coles pooled customer donations to give more than $3000 in the supermarket’s gift cards and trolleys full of toys to the 3BA Christmas Appeal.
Wendouree store manager Sharon Germon said staff at all four stores felt it was really important to give back directly to their communities.
“The appeal supports the same charities as Second Bite program, which we donate our excess fresh produce to, so we can work in both,” Ms Germon said.
“Customers are realising now we do this every year and really get behind it.
“It’s really good to see operators call out to say their tins are nearly full with coins, and need replacing.”
Stores have been collecting cash donations by the registers and customers have also brought in toys to give. Coles has been focusing on the 3BA Christmas Appeal for about five years.
Sebastopol point of sale manager Michelle Ladiges said there had been a notable increase in donations this Christmas as awareness of support for the appeal in-store grew.
The appeal supports the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Anglicare and Uniting Ballarat.
