It comes as a truck driver was caught nearly four times over the legal limit late last week.
And a crash between a ute and four wheel drive on Friday night in Delacombe is also being investigated as to whether drink driving was the cause.
A 44-year-old St Leonards man had his truck impounded and is set to be charged with multiple driving offences after blowing a shocking .191 after his truck was intercepted in Skipton Street in the middle of the afternoon.
Friday nights crash in Smythes Road saw a woman allegedly flee the scene before the ute she was driving was found almost 300m down the road. Fortunately, neither the woman nor the any members of the family travelling in the four wheel drive were injured.
Superintendent Jenny Wilson said drink drivers were putting others at risk.
She said cases such as this were why police were conducting a major statewide blitz over the Christmas-New Year period.
“People should be mindful of how that impacts on their own behaviour and on how it affects others,” she said. “Significant readings like this as we’ve seen is a real concern to us.
“Even if you’re not caring about yourself, you should be caring about other people because you are a real danger to other community members.”
Police are in the middle of a 24-day Christmas and New Year road blitz, Operation Roadwise.
Superintendent Wilson said said the operation was targeting impaired drivers, saying that since July, Ballarat Police have intercepted 1.5 people a day driving with drugs in their system.
