He joins assistant coach Andrew Hooper and Keegan Mellington, who are former North Ballarat Roosters teammates.
Weightman follows Hooper from Werribee, where he moved to after the Roosters folded at the end of 2017, as newcomers for next season in the Ballarat Football League.
Weightman is widely travelled as a footballer.
He worked his way through junior ranks at Bungaree in the Central Highlands Football League before earning a place on the North Ballarat Rebels’ TAC Cup under-18 list in 2013 and 2014.
Weightman was named on the Roosters’ list in 2015 and made his VFL debut in 2016.
He stayed with North Ballarat for three seasons, having Bungaree as his home club in 2015 when he represented the CHFL.
He then aligned himself with East Point in the BFL in 2016 and 2017.
Weightman spent most of last season with Albion in the Western Region league, where he won the best and fairest
The Swans have also secured Tom Thewlis and Ben Jackson from SMW Rovers in the Mininera District league.
Ballarat’s new coach Joe Carmody had a stint as SMW Rovers.
Thewlis and Jackson finished first and second in the Rovers’ best and fairest this.
Jackson had time in under-age football with Ballarat and CHFL club Springbank.
Other Ballarat recruits have included Carisbrook premiership and former Gordon players, Ash Munari and Stephen Patterson.
The Swans are striving to move into finals calcuations after finishing 10th this year with just three wins.
SUNBURY has lost Tristan Lenaz back to Wangaratta Rovers in the Ovens and Murray league.
He left Rovers at the end of 2016 and joined the Lions.
Lenaz was a regular in the senior line-up in 2017, but was in and out of the side this year.
FORMER Redan youngster Tom Morrish has been picked up by West Adelaide in the SANFL.
From Ouyen, the youngster emerged with the Lions in 2017 while attending St Patrick’s College.
GWV Rebels added him to their list mid-season. He returned to play with Ouyen United this year.
DARLEY and Melton are planning major anniversary celebrations next year.
The Devils is preparing to mark its centenary, while Melton is turning 140.
A focal point for Darley will a gala event at Crown Casino on Saturday, July 13.
BFNL hall of fame member Dan Jordan has been reappointed Essendon VFL head coach.
It will be his fourth season in charge.
The champion goalkicker, who was inducted into the BFNL hall of fame this year, retired and left East Point at the end of 2013 to join Essendon.
He served as a forward coach in 2014 and a defensive coach in 2015.
