Mum Czenzi Riesinger and dad Shaun Kaiser quipped they had wondered months ago their baby was a chance to be born on the first day of the year, but they could still hardly believe when it happened.
Ms Riesinger was the only mum in labour in Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital when the clocked ticked over to 2019. This meant plenty of attention and one-on-one time with the four midwives and doctor who were on duty.
Mr Kaiser shared cheese and biscuits with the team at midnight.
Ms Riesinger said Phoebe was an incredible New Year’s Day surprise and her partner and his whole family had not been expecting a girl.
Phoebe, who is named after her great-grandmother’s middle name, is the first grandchild on both sides of her family.
The new family spent most of the day napping.
Ms Riesinger said the midwife who delivered Phoebe also delivered a Christmas baby a week ago, and they felt honoured to be part of her milestone moments too.
