The woman is understood to have handed herself in to police on Tuesday afternoon after allegedly being seen on CCTV at the store around 5.30pm on Monday.

The tin had been placed at the pizza shop for more than four months to help two children, Jayden 14, and Levi, 9,  raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

At this stage, police have not confirmed whether charges will, or have, been laid.

Brooke Munn, the mother of one of the children who was raising money for the hospital took to social media last night to thank the public for their support.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us with this. We really appreciate all the support given to us and our boys,” she said. 

“We are gutted by what has happened and that someone could stoop so low as to steal from children but this won’t stop us. 

“Also a huge thank you to Tim and Karina from Pinky’s Pizza for their contribution to our boys fundraising efforts. 

“A lot of people have been asking how to donate to the boys charity. A new tin has been placed in the store to try and re-coup the funds that we’ve lost. We also have an Everyday Hero account opened by the hospital they you can donate directly to.”

Steve McDonald wrote “Everyone get behind this if you have the means. Lets make one bad deed turn into a better good deed. Help them blow the RCH target out of the water!”
