For centuries, local bakers have held a special place in the heart of communities right around the world.
While times may have changed, the art of baking has not and chances are you will still find a local baker getting up in the middle of the night to ply their trade in almost any village, town or city you care to visit.
Bakers Delight was launched in 1980, when Roger and Lesley Gillespie opened the very first store in Hawthorn. Since then, Bakers Delight has developed a reputation for delivering delightful, daily fresh baked bread through a delightful customer service experience.
Although Bakers Delight is now one of Australia’s most recognisable bakery brands, every bakery remains an entirely locally owned business. Ballarat is fortunate to have five Bakers Delight bakeries – Bakery Hill, Sebastopol, Wendouree, Lucas and Ballarat City, each owned and operated by people who were born and raised in the region.
It is this deep connection with the local area that drives all five business owners to actively support the many clubs and organisations that are an essential part of the wider Ballarat community.
Each day, Bakers Delight products are donated to local charities that provide food for the needy, to schools for their important Breakfast Club program or to local sporting clubs looking to subsidise their sausage sizzles and other catered events for their members.
This community spirit also extends to employment, with a number of apprenticeships and first job opportunities being offered to local people of all ages looking to cut their teeth in a fast-paced working environment.
With Easter now fast approaching, all five Ballarat-based Bakers Delight teams are working hard at bringing to life a Hot Cross Bun recipe that has been perfected over four decades. Although this is one of their busiest times of year, your Bakers Delight will always find the time to help local schools and sporting/community groups to raise some much needed dough through their annual bun drive campaign.
