Butt will drive Let It Ride, trained by his brother Tim, if the star lines up in the group 1 race.
The Butts have indicated Let It Ride will start in the $110,000 Ballarat event if he performs well in Saturday night's Shepparton Gold Cup.
Let It Ride finished third to Rackemup Tigerpie in the Ballarat Lightning Sprint on Boxing Day, followed by a second to San Carlo in the Bendigo Pacing Cup.
Butt has driven Stunin Cullen (2011), Mah Sish (2013) and Smolda (2017) to Ballarat Cup victories.
The cup field be finalised on Tuesday.
