With more than 20 overseas names already locked in to play, with entries still flowing through, ALPG CEO Karen Lunn believes this year’s field is even better than 2018.
Players from Spain, England, New Zealand, Belgium, Canada and even the Cook Islands will take part in the event, which is in its second year of running.
Lunn was pleased to see the quality field growing.
“There’s a lot of really good players. A lot of top Australian players, a lot of really good international players, so it’s a great field – we thought last year’s field was good, but this is certainly better this year,” Lunn told The Courier.
“Our Australian players, they love going to regional centres. A lot of golfers start their golf at regional towns, so they feel very at home going back to the country.”
Of the Australian attendees, Karis Davidson is one to watch.
Davidson came to Ballarat’s rookie camp last year and played the Pro-Am, before going on to produce a stellar Vic Open, finishing second. She will return a better credentialed player 12 months on.
Lunn said it was great to see the event attracting quality names.
She said it was important to offer regional golf centres the opportunity to attend high-quality events.
“We’ve established a really good relationship (with Ballarat).
“It’s great for country and regional areas to get events like this happening.
“People in regional areas are starved of big events, sure you can drive into the city and watch things, but to actually have things on your doorstep is great.”
A rookie camp will be held from January 21 and 25 while an ALPG qualifying event on January 24 and 25 will serve as lead-ups to the Saturday-Sunday competition.
