The Hawks have changed the rink named "The Allan Shearer Green" to "The Lloyd Sims Green".
Jeff Clack, an executive officer at the club, said the name change was to honour the amount of work Sims has put in at the club, in particular the overseeing of the greens' redevelopment.
The name change was announced at the club’s Christmas dinner in December, where Sims had many family members present.
Sims joined City Oval for the 2004-05 season. The club's board structure was established in 2008, with Sims the inaugural chairman until 2012 before being re-elected in 2015.
He agitated for a synthetic green, which was installed and laid under council management in 2010, but was shut down in 2013 due to faults in the sub-structure. Sims negotiated with council for a replacement, which is a grass green.
