Golino stole the show in the Ballarat Pacing Cup night’s trotting feature last year, winning with My Tribeca and producing three of the first four from a quartet of runners.
While he has just the two starters this time, the highly rated Dance Craze and Pizza Queen provide the Yabby Dam Racing operation with a second to none chance of landing the group 2 event again.
Dance Craze goes to Bray Raceway looking to rebound after never being in contention in the group 1 Maori Mile at Bendigo on January 5.
Not only is the mare looking to get back into winning form, but also secure a berth in the group 1 $250,000 Great Southern Star at Melton a week later.
Golino said getting a run in the Great Southern Star was the aim. “It’d be great to get a start.”
He said first though Dance Craze needed to get the job done on her home track.
Golino said she had come through her latest assignment in great shape.
He said the Maori Mile was basically best forgotten, with Dance Craze.never a chance to get into contention the way race was run.
Golino said she was never going to lead from her draw and after being eased back at the start was unable to get into the race.
Golino believes she will be better suited by the long trip of 2200m in Ballarat.
A NSW Oaks winner as a three-year-old, Pizza Queen is racing in career-best form with back-to-back group 3 wins before a midfield finish in the Maori Mile when she took ground late.
He said that being Northern Hemisphere-bred – making her about six months younger than her Australasian-bred rivals – Pizza Queen had takena while to acclimatise to Australian racing and was now coming into her own.
“She’s real good. She’s never looked better. She’s come back physically better and much stronger.”
While Inter Dominion trotting champion Tornado Valley is missing, Golino said there was no shortage of quality in the Cochran Cup with Inter Dom runner-up Sky Petite (trained by Michael Stanley at Burrumbeet) and Inter Dom finalist Save Our Pennys flying.
He said they were going to be extremely hard to beat.
