While Rackemup Tigerpie has done everything asked of him this preparation – winning six of eight starts, including the Ballarat Lightning Sprint at his latest outing – this is the first time he has stepped out at this level.

Stanley says whatever the four-year-old does in the group 1 $110,000 event, he will benefit greatly from the experience against more seasoned and hardened campaigners.

And this is why Stanley could not be happier with the barrier draw, with Rackemup Tigerpie to start two off the pegs on the second row. “It’s a good trailing draw.”

He said this would allow the race to unfold in front of him and not get caught up in what might be a hectic start.

“If the pace is on, we’ll be running on.

“Its going to be tough, but he’s up for the challenge.”

Stanley said it was great to have his first starter in his hometown cup, and even more exciting that it was a family horse – bred and owned by his parents Ian (who also trained Rackemup Tigerpie up to November) and Mavis.

Rackemup Tigerpie is also the latest chapter in the story of broodmare Victoria Street, which was purchased by the Stanleys as a youngster and has produced six winners.

Her first foal Blucolla Tigerpie was a group 1 winner in the Tasmanian Oaks.

There is an element of good fortune that Rackemup Tigerpie is still with the Stanley family.

He was put on the market at the end of last season, but failed to attracted any interest.

It could not have worked out better for the Stanleys, who are now hoping to get him to the $200,000 Chariots of Fire for 4yos at Menangle on February 16.
