The third-placed Pointies went down to North Ballarat by six wickets, relinquishing a two-game buffer on fourth.
Golden Point will take on fifth-placed Buninyong at Eastern Oval over the next two weekends as two-day cricket returns.
Skipper Josh White said the side’s batting was not up to scratch last week, and an extra focus in the nets throughout the week was on the menu.
“Losing that game (against North Ballarat last week) evens it back up,” White said.
“We didn’t bat particularly well, we got off to a bad start and they got off to a bit of a flyer when they batted.
“We just need to tidy up a few things.
“We’ll do a lot of batting this week, make sure the boys are ready to go. But it’s not like the boys don’t know what needs to be done, it’s just a matter of doing it.”
White said the clash was an important one to ensure his side remained entrenched in the top four.
“It is pretty tight through that middle part of the ladder, every win you can get against one of those teams is pretty handy for a buffer.”
EAST Ballarat will be without two key players when it faces fellow top four side Wendouree this round.
Captain Josh Brown and Brad Whittaker are both unavailable for the match in what promises to be a tightly-fought affair.
Nonetheless, Brown was confident his side could get the job done.
The Hawks remain four points clear on top of the ladder, the Red Caps holding on to fourth spot by percentage.
Brown said the aim was to finish top two, a very achievable goal given its position with four games remaining.
“We just need to keep winning to stay as high as we can on the ladder and keep away from that middle group,” Brown said.
“Finishing top two is the aim.”
Cameron Carter and Oscar Pryor will make their way into the team.
Brown said last week’s victory over Brown Hill was solid but there was plenty to work on, the side dropping a handful of catches, something it can ill-afford to do against Wendouree.
MT CLEAR will take on Brown Hill. The Mounties are arguably the flag favourite and the Bulls have struggled to regain the form that saw it start the season 4-0, this will be another big test.
NORTH Ballarat will be hoping to account for Ballarat-Redan, which beat it in the twenty20 fixture, to ensure it stays in touch with the top four.
DARLEY is two games outside the four, if it wants to be any chance of playing finals it will need victory over Napoleons-Sebastopol.
