Victoria Police have issued this statement:
“A man has died after the motorbike he was travelling on struck a safety barrier near Ballan this afternoon (18 January).
The man was travelling in a westerly direction on the Western Freeway near Daylesford Road just after 2.45pm when the crash occurred.
The yet to be identified man died at the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.”
EARLIER: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on the Western Freeway.
It is understood the crash involves a motorcyclist.
The crash occurred in the Ballarat-bound lanes near Ballan about 2.40pm.
All emergency services are on scene.
Both Ballarat lanes are blocked to traffic.
Melbourne-bound lanes are unaffected.
VicRoads advises drivers follow Old Melbourne Road through Gordon and get back onto the Western Freeway from Ormond Road, Wallace.
This closure is under Victoria Police control. The road will reopen when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.
The crash follows a fatality near Avoca yesterday, in which a person was killed after a ute crashed into a tree and caught fire.
