Onions claimed the PGA Legends Tour event at the Midlands Golf Club last year and is among the list of about 70 nominations for the 2019 tournament.
Many of the high profile players on the PGA Legends Tour are on their way to Midlands this weekend, including the likes of Peter Senior, Peter O’Malley, Peter Fowler, Terry Price, last year’s runner-up Mike Harwood and David McKenzie.
The $25,000 event will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Midlands head professional Michael Cooke said it was an exciting event for the club.
“It’s a great event for the club and we’re looking forward to showing the course off, which is probably in the best condition it has ever been,” Cooke said.
Part of the weekend’s action will include competition for junior players. The events, sponsored by Create Infinity, will be held on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Youngsters will have the opportunity to play with the legends and the chance to win a trip to Queensland to participate in a Terry Price golf clinic.
All junior participants will also receive 10 free rounds of golf, thanks to the team at Villawood Properties – developers of the new housing community adjacent to the course called Drew’s Paddock.
There is also expected to be a field of over 200 players for the pro-am on Sunday.
The course is open to spectators free of charge on both days of the Peach's Fruit Market Victorian Senior Masters.
