The King’s Cup will be exhibited during the Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club on Saturday, February 2, and Sunday, February 3.
Having the trophy at Lake Wendouree is part of the centenary celebrations for the King’s Cup – Australia’s premier interstate men’s eight rowing event.
The National War Museum is releasing the trophy for the visit.
An Australian Infantry Forces crew was the first to take possession of the cup – winning at the Royal Peace Regatta in London to mark the end of World War I.
King George V presented the Australians with the trophy.
Wendouree Ballarat has scheduled 144 events for the two-day regatta, with entries closing on Monday.
Club president John King said he was pleased with the support for the regatta.
“We are delighted with preparations.
“We’re committed to delivering a national standard event for Ballarat,” he said.
Rowing Victoria field of play manager Eric Waller, who also heads up Ballarat Rowing Association, said the course was in outstanding condition.
He praised the work of the City of Ballarat, which had ensured Lake Wendouree was of national standard for the season.
King said more than 1600 athletes would take to the water – showcasing the best in the state’s rowing talent.
“The regatta will bring the best available rowers to our city to compete in a range of events, including the state selection trials.”
The trials will take place at the start of the program on the Saturday morning.
A large screen will again be on site to allow spectators to see all the racing on the 2000m course.
The regatta will also be livestreamed.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Lake Wendouree course and promote our club’s values of teamwork, health, fitness, and participation,” King said.
The Wendouree Ballarat J.G King Regatta is the second rowing event on the rowing event on the Ballarat of the year, following the Ballarat Rowing Association regatta last Saturday.
It will again pitch Ballarat schools against each other as they continue to build to the BAS Head of the Lake on Lake Wendouree on Sunday, February 24.
