Riki Fostar Hosoai from Japan will debut in an all-National Premier Leagues practice match.
Ballarat is taking on Melbourne Knights on the Morshead Park stadium pitch at 1pm.
The outing will also be the first for City FC under the guidance of newly-appointed director of football James Robinson.
This is his second stint in charge of Ballarat’s premier soccer team.
Robinson coached Ballarat for three seasons before moving to A-League club Brisbane Roar as youth team coach at the end of 2016.
Robinson said Hosoai had been signed as a centre forward.
“He’s a fantastic addition to our squad. I’m sure he’ll excite our fans.
“His values as a person fit perfectly into the type of character that is required to play at Ballarat City FC,” Robinson said.
