At a Ballarat City Council meeting on Wednesday, councillors will note the pre-approved international travel for a workshop in Abu Dhabi next week, and approve travel for a council officer to attend a conference in Wellington.
Overseas travel for council’s heritage and cultural landscapes coordinator to attend a workshop ‘Applying a Historic Urban Landscape approach to the case of Al Ain City’ (World Heritage site) event and ‘Economic development and environmental/heritage protection’ (in the World Heritage context) in Abu Dhabi was approved by chief executive officer Justine Linley last May, before changes to council’s overseas travel policy were voted on on December 12.

All future international travel for council officers must now be approved at council after the amended policy was adopted on January 14.
Council’s business improvement manager has been invited to attend and speak at an Association of Local Government Information Management New Zealand conference on May 6 and 7.
The hosts of both trips will cover flights, accommodation and all other expenses.
City of Ballarat last month revealed its councillors and employees spent almost $50,000 on international travel in 2018. The most expensive overseas trip totaled $26,657, with mayor Samantha McIntosh, Art Gallery of Ballarat director Louise Tegart and the city’s economic development executive manager James Guy visiting France, the UK and Turkey to consider art exchanges and waste to energy.
