The map, below, is not 100 per cent accurate, and may be subject to change as projects begin – instead, it’s an illustration of where wind turbine construction is going on.
ZOOM IN ON BALLARAT TO CHECK IT OUT:
The construction boom is ongoing, with the Stockyard Hill project announcing its first turbine has gone up, while construction is forging ahead near Mount Egerton.
At least three turbines are now up at the northern sector of the Lal Lal project, between Yendon and Mount Egerton, with dozens more towers beginning to dot the landscape and immense blades waiting in paddocks.
Each will be about 161 metres tall at its highest point, and are expected to have a generating capacity of about 220 megawatts.
Three tower segments, the nascelle, and three blades need to arrive for each tower – trucks haul the components up the Midland Highway late at night to each project site.
In the west, Goldwind’s 149 turbine project at Stockyard Hill is also underway.
The company’s project director, Andrew Monahan, said construction should be complete by next year.
“Our civil and electrical contractors, logistics contractors, installation contractor and the global Goldwind team have worked together in the detailed planning stages for this milestone for around six months,” he said.
“It’s been a substantial team effort to ensure the first installation was carried out safely and smoothly.”

This project, south of Beaufort, will involve turbines 180m tall at their highest point.
Goldwind’s other project, at Moorabool, has had foundations poured and access tracks built as components begin arriving for its 107 turbines.
The state’s largest project, at Rokewood, still requires federal approval, and is the subject of hearing at the Supreme Court regarding its planning permit at the end of the month.
