The Sri Lankan, who moved to Australia to play with the Ballarat Cricket Association club, died over the weekend.
Darley announced the news via its Facebook page, where many of Rupasinghe’s friends and club members expressed their sadness.
Lions president Rod Ward was one of the many that posted about his heartbreak.
“So very sad, and it breaks my heart to see such a beautiful man tragically gone so soon,” Ward wrote.
“He was so loved by all at Darley - can’t believe it’s true.”
Rupasinghe played across four seasons with Darley and was a member of its first grade team that was beaten in the 2016-17 grand final by Wendouree.
He was a prolific wicket-taker for the Lions during his time at the club, snaring 20 wickets in both of the 2014-15 and 2016-17 campaigns.
Rupasinghe, who also featured for the Ballarat Cricket Association side at Melbourne Country Week, last played for Darley during the 2017-18 season.
