But those hopes were dashed in the early stages of Saturday afternoon as North Ballarat stormed through Wendouree’s batting line-up.
Red Caps were in a solid position at 2-66 before Adam Eddy and Connor Miles delivered a knockout blow with the ball.
Eddy and Miles took 5-15 and 4-32 respectively as Wendouree were dismissed for 92 runs, the final six batsman on the scoreboard contributing just three runs.
North Ballarat had no issues reeling in the total, opening pair Janath Tissera (49 runs) and Leigh Lorenzen (39) putting on 91 runs.
North ended the day at 3-150 after 40 overs, ensuring it took first innings points to deny Wendouree, which sits 10 points off fourth-placed North Ballarat with two matches remaining in the season.
AN OUTSTANDING 155 from Golden Point skipper Josh White led his side to 8-301 against East Ballarat on day one.
White ended the day unbeaten in what was his third century of the season.
BUNINYONG secured first innings points against Napoleons-Sebastopol on the weekend.
Naps-Sebas were sent in to bat and the Bunnies bowled them out for 85, Brad Palmer taking 5-32.
Buninyong passed the total with six wickets in hand, finishing the day at 7-132.
MT CLEAR made 272 runs against Darley on Saturday.
74 runs from Matt Ward proved influential down the order.
Darley went in to bat for just one over, making four runs without loss.
JASON Knowles hit 89 runs to put Brown Hill in the box seat against Ballarat-Redan.
The Bulls made 230 and have Two Swords at 3-20 at stumps.
