The Big V scored a narrow win over fellow battlers Highton, prevailing 86-81 on home soil.
That triumph hasn’t been able to lift Victoria off the bottom of the ladder, but has trimmed the margin on ninth-placed Highton to just five points.
Two home and away rounds remain this season.
Meanwhile, Sebastopol has kept itself in the running for a spot in the playoffs by beating Bareena.
The Kookaburras scored a decisive win over the former top side, which has slipped to second.
Sebastopol is fifth, five points behind the fourth-placed Eastern Park, which defeated Lara by a solitary shot on Saturday.
Ocean Grove has taken over at the summit following its win against Webbcona at the weekend as Buninyong lost to Queenscliff.
