Colleen Harrison Walsh joined Saines Lucas Solicitors last year as the firm’s property, estates and commercial solicitor.
Prior to her legal career, Colleen was based in Ballarat, working with private and commercial clients in the banking sector.
Having been born and raised in Dunnstown, she completed her legal studies in 2010, undertaking a double degree (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws) and graduating with first class honours in Law.
A mature age student at university, Colleen received a number of awards, including Most Outstanding Work Integrated Law Student, in recognition of her pro-bono work assisting Legal Aid in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court and her role in the pilot group of students establishing the Sunshine Youth Legal Centre.
Before starting at Saines Lucas Solicitors, Colleen worked in property and succession law with several Melbourne-based law firms.

She took time to answer this Q&A about her legal career to date.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Law is constantly evolving, with the opportunity to learn something new every day, either through research or by day-to-day reading material that is required to keep your legal knowledge accurate.
I enjoy problem solving and building strong client relationships
What made you pursue a career in commercial law?
From the time I was a 17-year-old I wanted to pursue a legal career. It was the thought of using my legal knowledge to assist members of the community to unravel their legal issues.
What piques your interest about the legal industry?
I have always been passionate about property law and its intricacies.
Estate planning and succession law provides me with the important role of advising and objectively guiding clients with the big decisions in life planning.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
Very busy, with an average of three or four client meetings per day, combined with staff interaction, supervision and guidance. (There’s also) exposure to different areas of law, from reading contracts to researching.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
Achieving first class honours as a mature age student, while raising a five-year-old daughter and gaining Student of the Year (while at university).
