Nunn, who has progressed through the ranks since starting work as the Ballarat Football Netball League's operations officer more than a decade ago, has taken up a position with the AFL.
He has been appointed as AFL umpiring administration and operations manager, a role that is largely based in Melbourne.
"To all the hard working, dedicated volunteers at club, league and commission level, I will forever be in awe of what you all do for your respective organisations," Nunn wrote.
"I have seen first hand the important role you all play in making sure community football and netball remain the sports of choice for our participants and the passion you show through your involvement."
Nunn will finish as AFL Goldfields commercial and regional operations manager on March 8.
