One of the great things about a city like Ballarat is the seemingly limitless capacity for great stories. These can come as readily from the future as they do from the past.

A city so rich in history has no end to mysteries that its familiar streets can conceal. Who would have imagined, for instance, that a theatre perhaps bigger and better than Her Majesty's, once presided over Sturt Street and that revealing remnants still existed.
Yet that is just one story subscribers can read exclusively this morning.
In contrast to this past are those stories which so clearly shine of the future.
This week we launch our Innovation Ballarat series, a look at the inspiring and creative worlds which are occurring across a host of businesses.
And while we are on the subject of the future, what could be better than showcasing some of our best student athletes at the Head of the Lake. If the quality of Ballarat education is one of its strong points, it is also the dedication and spirit of its students that bodes well for our future. What better place to celebrate this than on a lake, dry a decade ago, but now, even after a dry summer, assured of being topped up with recycled water.
It hints at a shining future.
This and so much more is worth celebrating for those who know and love Ballarat.
As a special offer for subscribers this week, we have two tickets to give away to the Begonia Ball, the grand event that will signal the re-opening of Civic Hall. Itself a synthesis of past and present.
The tickets are for reserved seating, which includes a two course meal and drink upon arrival, valued at $120. Click here to enter.
