Fire crews were called out to Hillcrest Road in Nerrina about 1.45am on Sunday, with reports of explosions in the area.
Upon arrival, they found a Commodore station wagon engulfed in flames on a track in heavy bushland.
The fire had extended beyond the car and caught on to nearby scrubland.
Police also attended the scene. It was the seventh torched vehicle in the Ballarat area in two weeks.
Ballarat Fire Brigade put out a call on social media for an end to the behaviour, stating it was only a matter of time before people got injured or killed.
"These fires have the potential to cause major damage to property and even the loss of life," the post read.
"We need to bring this to an end before one of our members or a member of the community gets injured."
Anybody with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, air support was needed to control a blaze that took off in Warrenheip on Sunday afternoon.
Eight CFA units were called at one point to fight the fire near the Warrenheip Recreation Reserve.
The fire started about 3.50pm and was brought under control within about half an hour.
Fire crews also had to tackled a blaze in the median strip of Victoria Street in Ballarat East on Sunday afternoon.
The fire was quickly brought under control, but crews remained on scene for some time to ensure it did not reignite.
