The Vikings enjoyed a 2-0 win over White Star Dandenong in scorching condition on Saturday afternoon.
While Ballarat delivered a win over Old Xaverians, Justin Whitcher scoring.
Vikings recruit Denelson Salvatore continued his goal-scoring form for his new club, converting a penalty at the 46-minute mark, Blair Marshall then doubled the advantage after 75 minutes following a good bit of play from Adrian Curtain and Edwin North.
Coach Michael Goodman said his side created a number of chances, and while those chances did not always translate to goals, he was pleased with the group's application in trying conditions.
"We created a lot of chances across the course of the game," Goodman said.
"We deserved more goals, but we weren't clinical in that final third.
"But it was good to see the lads maintain their patience and look to rotate the ball and continue to press.
"For us, we're excited to get through to the next round, but I think the weather was a real equaliser.
"As the weeks go on we'll get sharper and more efficient in our ball movement."
