With their instruments at the ready and hours of practice behind them, 26 students from Sarah Walters Studio in Napoleons will join about 16 Bachelor of Music Performance and Education students from Monash University's Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music to take part in Concert in a Day at Buninyong Town Hall on Sunday.
Led by Lisa Grosman, formerly from the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the musicians will spend a day making music before a public performance at the town hall at 4pm.
"It will be exciting, challenging and collaborative," said studio head Sarah Walters.
"I teach violin here in Napoleons and at the moment I've got 26 students ranging from age four to adults and they'll all be part of the day," she said.
"One of our philosophies here is that we don't have to limit what's possible, so we will be playing quite a varied program.
"We'll see what we can pull together when we haven't played together before. They'll learn skills around group consciousness, working together, and there's no element of competition."
Students have been learning a range of pieces including Telemann's Concerto for Four Violins in D Major, Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A Minor, 1st movement, and Mozart's German Dance for String Orchestra.
"We will fine tune and talk about the music and shape it. Every time a group gets together it's a different sound on a different day," she said.
"It's not going to be note perfect but I think people might be surprised what is possible, what they can do and what we can do together."
The public concert is at 4pm on Sunday at Buninyong Town Hall and will be followed by afternoon tea.
