The fire started just after 9pm where a Holden Commodore was set alight in Ligar Street. Fortunately, the occupant of the house it was parked out the front of saw a glow and was quick to call the CFA who were able to put the fire out before it took hold of the entire car.
The fire was contained to the engine.
A Ballarat City Fire Station spokesperson said the fire was being treated as suspicious, but fortunately it was able to be contained before it spread to nearby trees.
"It's becoming a regular thing and unfortunately it's consistent with what happens across the state," the spokesperson said.
"When we arrived last night, there were still people out walking their dogs, so we believe someone might have seen something or someone and if they have they should contact police."
The Soldiers Hill region has become a hot spot for car fires in the past two months. In late January, a car was found burned out in Howard Street while on February 1, a Mazda 3 was torched also in Ligar Street.
On February 18, a car was burned out in nearby Black Hill.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
