At Clunes Primary School, opportunities for leadership within the school community are available at every year level. As well as our formal leadership roles such as school captains, house captains and junior school council representatives, we have our Year 6 and Prep Buddy Program that assists Prep students to feel supported by responsible Year 6 mentors. Within the classroom, we have peer teachers and classroom ‘experts’ as well as an eco-warrior team and newsletter helpers.
Our school captains are involved in multiple leadership opportunities each year, beginning with running the weekly whole school assembly. Students conduct leadership meetings with school staff to discuss issues, celebrate achievements, and enjoy morning tea.
Each year the school captains participate in the GRIP Leadership Conference, an opportunity designed to investigate the role that all students can take in shaping ideas and plans to improve their school.
Our school captains also attend the Primary Schools Parliamentary Convention in Melbourne, giving them an opportunity to voice their opinion on a current issue as well as listening to the ideas of other students in a debate forum.
Clunes Primary School’s school wide values, We Learn, We Show Respect, We are Safe, underpin student learning and wellbeing, and our school leaders produce a short film each year showing these values in action, in the classroom and the playground.
