Student leadership at St Patrick’s Parish Primary School takes many forms. From the school captains who lead the Student Representative Council, to the school’s environmental captains, Mini-Vinnies and sports house captains, students from Foundation to Year 6 enjoy the challenge of working together to build a happy and safe learning environment.
Each year the students focus on qualities of good leadership before voting with their class mates to form the various positions in the school. In this way students who are elected as leaders truly represent their peers. In line with the School’s Child Safety policy, all students are encouraged to have their say in matters which concern their learning and wellbeing. Through formal leadership structures, everyone can have their voice heard on a range of matters from social events to community outreach and fundraising.
School leaders can often be found leading tours through the school, and meeting with the principal and staff to discuss a range of issues.
Through opportunities to lead school assembly, promote a more sustainable school environment or leading sports events, the leaders at St Patrick’s know that they are contributing in positive ways to the life of the school.
Whether they are in their first year of primary school or their last, it doesn’t matter. The understanding that all students have the right to be heard and all students have a voice permeates the school.
