The Culture Fest collaboration in the forecourt of Civic Hall was celebrated on Sunday as part of Cultural Diversity Week.
Thai dance co-ordinator Lekkie Sassmannshausen said the day was about coming together as one.
"We love to promote our cultures to everybody and we love to preserve our culture, get people, who may be of Thai heritage to learn about the dancing," Ms Sassmannshausen said.
"It's very important to also learn about other cultures and make more friends and to make our community wider. It's good to learn from other people about what they do, what they are like."
"This is good that it is outdoors, so people can walk past and see what's happening and get involved."
City of Ballarat Councillor Belinda Coates said with events around the world being the focus in recent days, community led events were important for all people.
"Awareness and understanding, sharing of culture and stories, and personal connections are incredibly important because when these things break down, that's what causes racism," she said.
