Royce's sister Lesinda, age four, was the defending junior champion for Alfredton Rotary's second annual fishing competition on Sunday.
Action cast off at 6.30am with about 40 contenders on the water, in kayaks and boats, or fishing from shore by mid-morning. Prizes were up for grabs in junior and open divisions for biggest (by length) trout and redfin.
Experienced fishermen and women, along with Victorian Fishers Authority representatives, were on hand at Durham Point to offer advice and equipment.
Alfredton Rotary coordinator Kathy Rivett said it was a great chance for people to try the sport. The event was sparked with members wanting to do more at the lake.
"Fishing is very relaxing. Lake Wendouree is a great facility and we've got to use it more," Ms Rivett said. "We'd like people to come out, keep fishing and join us next year."
Money raised will help to fund the club's community projects.
