Nichols, who joined the Hawks from VRI Delacombe this season, split the webbing in his hand during the early stages of the semi-final win over Golden Point.

Brown said Nichols didn't bowl as a result of the injury and hoped he would be okay to take his place in the four-day showdown with North Ballarat.

The skipper said Nichols, who has 15 first grade wickets in 2018-19, was "more than likely" to play, despite requiring stitches to help repair the damage.

"Hopefully we go in unchanged - that's the plan at this stage," Brown told The Courier on Tuesday.

Brown and his side are looking for the club's first A-grade premiership since 2005-06, when the Hawks secured back-to-back flags.

Carl Haseloff was part of those teams and returned to the first grade side after a long hiatus last weekend.

He made a handy 31 at the top of the order as the Hawks chased down the Pointies' modest total of 125 with six wickets in hand.

That ended Golden Point's shot at successive flags.

North Ballarat is looking to break an even longer premiership drought, with the Roosters' last triumph coming all the way back in 2002-03.

The side produced a big semi-final upset when it defeated minor premiers Mt Clear, which only needed to chase down a total of 138 for victory.

Quick Ash McCafferty tore through the Mounties for 99 with a match-best 5-25.

"A lot of us have played at North for a few years and when we were down the bottom there, so it's very emotional to be playing in a grand final," captain Leigh Lorenzen said.

"For blokes like Jason Crosbie - who has played juniors here - he's never played in an A-grade grand final. So for him to get there now is really big for him and the club."

Lorenzen, who has made more than 750 runs this season, said it was the plan for his side to go into the grand final unchanged.

East Ballarat finished the home and away season second on the ladder, with the Roosters fourth. And after two meetings during 2018-19, the ledger is square at one win apiece.

The two captains will gather at the Eastern Oval - the home of the four-day clash - this Wednesday for a special presentation of match balls by Ballarat Cricket Association sponsor Kookaburra.

The grand final is set to begin at 1pm on Saturday before running across the weekend. After that, days three and four will be on March 30 and 31.
