The future plan includes a large public plaza with additional green space, flanked by retail shops and a multi-deck car park as laid out in the Wendouree Railway Station Precinct Master Plan.
Land floated for the plaza is currently occupied by storage facility warehouses.
The plaza would front Gregory Street West, where works are underway to re-open the street to connect it to the Ballarat Link Road. The changes would provide pedestrian access to the station from the station's south.
The plan to reinvigorate unused railway land in the area could include an additional new bus interchange, and two new car park areas. New residential developments further down Gregory Street West are also floated in the master plan.
Areas around the Howitt Street and Learmonth Road intersection could be set for a shake-up, with a 'major retail and commercial development' flagged for the corner in front of the station, which is currently occupied by car dealerships.
A new public park could be created on the corner between Gillies Street North and Learmonth Road.
The document states rapid population growth in the West, along with the advent of the Ballarat Link Road, will "change the character of the Precinct, transforming from an 'outer area' to a central one".
City of Ballarat is now seeking feedback on the plan, which can be read in full at mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au
