Brandon Lee Burt faces five offences, including two counts of arson allegedly committed at Buninyong between August 19 and 20.
The 22-year-old allegedly set fire to a Buninyong house under construction on the Midland Highway, causing $100,000 damage.
During the same night, it is alleged Burt lit a fire in the Buninyong Football Netball Club rooms on Forest Street, causing $2000 damage.
He fronted the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday for a committal mention.
The prosecution sought an adjournment to obtain the cost in damages caused by the fires.
Magistrate Gregory Robinson said if the damages were under $100,000 the case would stay in the Magistrates Court, but it it was more than $100,000 it would go to the higher court.
Burt was remanded in custody until his next court date in April.
He has not entered a plea to the charges.
