Dr Naughtin, who is now mental health adviser to National Disability Insurance Agency, is guest speaker for Insights Mental Health Group open session on Saturday afternoon at Eastwood Leisure Complex.
The group is launching its website in a bid to better reach those who need support most in the community when and where they need it most. The site will feature resources and links to national and community partner agencies.
Insights Mental Health Group is a support network for people living with a mental illness, in social isolation and people whose loved ones are experiencing mental illness.
Insights leadership team member Mark Lacey said the group, in its 15th year, had long held coffee catch-ups, art sessions and meetings but was aware there was a large portion of the community they might not be reaching and a stronger online presence could help.
"Our group is quite important, not to a huge number of people, but to members," Mr Lacey said. "Over the years it's assisted people to have a better quality of life with the skills to not relapse."
Mr Lacey said the upcoming Victorian Royal Commission into Mental Health made this a great chance to learn from Dr Naughtin and community experts about changes to the system.
The event is on Saturday, 1-4pm. Queries: insightsmhballarat@gmail.com. Dr Naughtin will officially launch the website: insightsmhballarat.org.
