City FC defeated Brunswick City 3-2 at Morshead Park on Saturday.
The outing was the perfect start to a new era for Ballarat's premier senior women's soccer side, which now comes under the banner of CIty FC.
The outfit previously played as a stand alone entity as Eureka Strikers.
Ballarat struck first in the knockout cup tie, with the opening goal scored by Alex Murphy.
Sophie Emota doubled the advantage before Brunswick capitalised on a penalty awarded for handball.
They went to half-time locked at 2-all before Chloe Stevens provided the winner early in the second half.
Ballarat will now meet Preston Lions in round three at Morshead Park on Thursday, April 18.
MEANWHILE, City FC will begin its Football Victoria women's state league two north-west season on Sunday, April 7.
It is drawn to play Hume City at Morshead Park.
All Ballarat's home game are scheduled to be played on the stadium pitch in a season in which all 10 teams will meet twice.
City FC will also have two away Friday night matches.
