She is taking over a stable facility with capacity for 15 horses.

McDonald is married to prominent jumps jockey Lee Horner.

They combined for the one of the stable's biggest wins with Felix Bay in last year's Grand National Steeplechase in Morphettville.

McDonald said they had been drawn to Ballarat by the first-class training and racing facilities.

"We're a family focused business, so were enticed by the benefits of moving our operations to a community where we can put down a strong foundation for our family," she said.

Ballarat Turf Club chief executive officer Lachlan McKenzie said McDonald would be a great asset to the racing community.

She took up training in 2015 and has had 14 winners from limited opportunities. Spring Action provided her with her latest success at Penshurst on Boxing Day.

McDonald and Horner spent 18 months at Warrnambool before moving to Cranbourne in April 2017.

McDonald is the latest in a steady of flow of newcomers to Ballarat training ranks.

Nigel Blackiston has hit the ground running since making the move earlier this month.

He has had three wins from his latest four starters, with them coming at Bendigo, Donald and Terang.

A group 1 winner, Blackiston transferred his operation from Flemington. He has three nominations for Ararat on Thursday.
