Lateral Plains' nerd herder and Central Highlands Regional Partnership chairman George Fong has leapt to an impressive start to his Dancing With Our Stars campaign.

Less than a fortnight from The Ballarat Foundation's official event launch, Mr Fong has been tapping into his social media networks - as is his specialty - to have raised more than $1300 for the charity.

"There's a new generation of people looking to participate in things for charitable purposes. I think that new generation of people require new ways of looking at how we do that," Mr Fong told The Ballarat Foundation online.

"This opportunity can expose The Ballarat Foundation and the causes it works for to a whole new generation."

Ballarat's stars have also been busy showing their early training sessions in the community ahead of the June 22 performance night at Civic Hall.

The Ballarat Foundation chief executive officer Matt Jenkins said every donation and every dollar counts. Details will soon be announced for a big prize that fits the event's glitz and glamour themes to one lucky supporter.

Ten stars will be put through their paces the next three months in the spirit of popular international television dance-off Dancing with the Stars. 

Also in action with Mr Fong are: City of Ballarat mayor Samantha McIntosh, Canberra Hotel owner Malcolm Roberts, Ballarat Health Services chief medical officer Rosemary Aldrich, Buxton Real Estate director Mark Nunn, Alfredton Rotary member Robyn Upton, Clarke Clean owner Dylan Lesock, photographer and blogger Liana Skewes, AFLW player Amy McDonald and North Ballarat Roosters' triple premiership captain Shaune Moloney.

Each will partner with a member from The Dance Studio.

Money raised will support The Ballarat Foundation's wide-ranging community programs that partner with frontline welfare agencies across the City of Ballarat, Ararat Rural City, Pyrenees Shire, Hepburn Shire, Moorabool Shire and into the west of Golden Plains Shire.
