The Ballarat Foundation has confirmed it will once again host the mass-participation event, sending out a save-the-date for Sunday, November 17.
This comes after what the Foundation took on what it deemed an ambitious task in saving a fun run event for the city last July with about three months to pull it off after CottonOn Group announced Run Ballarat had reached its finish line.
A cause for this year's event will be revealed by early next month with official planning underway but The Ballarat Foundation chief executive officer Matt Jenkins said the Foundation was keen to first lock in the event date.
Work is underway to build on the inaugural Run for a Cause, which had a focus on raising funding and awareness for food security in the region. Causes are to change each year in line with the Foundation's major welfare drives across its community programs and charity partnerships.
Mr Jenkins said there was the potential for more supporting events to the five-kilometre and 10-kilometre run and walks, particularly with more time to plan ahead. A key change would be the event village in Victoria Park to shift next to the start line which was not possible last year due to a scheduling conflict with cricket bookings.
"We're so much more confident this year because we've got time," Mr Jenkins said.
We now know what we didn't know last year, the pitfalls and challenges - this time last year we weren't even considering an event.
The inaugural Run for a Cause generated in excess of $31,500 to tackle hunger across the region from more than 1650 participants.
Half of the money raised was to boost participants' elected frontline food relief charities: Ballarat Community Health, Uniting Ballarat, Food is Free, Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre, the Salvation Army and Anglicare.
Mr Jenkins confirmed remaining funding for the Foundation's Feed Ballarat Appeal is set to soon be made available for community grants on projects focused on food relief.
Run with the Wind in Ararat and Run for Geelong's Kids are scheduled for the same day as Run for a Cause this year but Mr Jenkins was confident the strong local community focus would still encourage a strong turn-out in Ballarat.
