EARLIER: Police are investigating 11 cars found broken into at the Wendouree train station on Sunday morning.
Many of the cars appeared to have their windows smashed, with belongings strewn around outside, including a handbag, and mail with names and addresses.
One car appeared to have its tyres deflated, and another, with a green P-plate attached, had been crashed into a light pole, but it is not yet known if these are related to the break-ins.
There is also a damaged fence in the western part of the expanded station.
There are CCTV cameras in the area, which were installed with additional lighting when the extra 200 car spaces were built last year.
Forensic officers were at the scene on Sunday taking fingerprints and other evidence.
Police are urging people to never leave valuables in their cars, especially overnight or while parked long-term.
Investigators confirmed they will be seizing the CCTV footage from Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Anyone with information should phone Ballarat police on 5336 6000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
